Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s sustained efforts resulted in the Food Corporation of India (FCI) agreeing to procure additional 20 lakh tonnes of parboiled rice from the Yasansi season, Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman M Srinivas Reddy said on Thursday.
Srinivas Reddy and rice millers thanked the Chief Minister for his intervention and making FCI procure additional parboiled rice. He conducted a review meeting with rice millers and corporation officials here on issues relating to Custom Milling Rice (CMR) and FCI.
The corporation chairman directed the rice millers and corporation officials to take appropriate precautions to ensure that Yasangi season’s CMR grain quality standards are not compromised. In this regard, officials and rice millers should work in coordination at the field level, he said.
The Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman said a record 92 lakh tonnes of grain was procured last Yasangi and handed over to the millers for CMR. However, due to obstacles posed by FCI, there was a delay in delivery of rice and 70 per cent of the stocks were stuck in the mills, he explained.
Rice millers from 32 districts, who participated in the meeting, complained that FCI was not providing the required storage space as per the demand. They said the new guidelines introduced by FCI this year were creating problems in leasing warehouses.
