A rescue team under Dr Praveen Kumar rescued a female Sloth Bear at at Himmathnagar village in Zaffergadh mandal of Jangaon district on Friday afternoon.
Hyderabad: An eight-member wildlife rescue team led by Dr P H Praveen Kumar, assistant veterinary surgeon, Hanamkonda, rescued a female sloth bear at Himmathnagar village in Zaffergadh mandal of Jangaon district on Friday afternoon. The sloth bear was spotted by the villagers around 6 am and they in turn informed the forest and the police officials.
A rescue team under Dr Praveen Kumar, which arrived at the site first darted and then sedated the animal. Later, the bear was administered with antibiotics and necessary injections. The team ‘camouflaged’ the animal using a gunny bag, and later shifted into the transportation cage. Upon receiving permission from the officials concerned, the animal was later released into Thatikonda forest reserve, Ghanpur range, in the evening.
Dr P H Praveen has been looking after Kakatiya Zoological Park since 2010 and has rescued 53 sloth bears so far. Senior officials including S J Asha, Conservator of Forest, Warangal Circle, Arpana, District Forest Officer, and R Shoba, TS Chief Wildlife Warden, coordinated with the rescue team to safely send back the animal into the wild.
