Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Supporters and followers of former Sirpur (T) MLA Koneru Konappa raised Rs.2.75 lakh through donations to provide financial assistance to the family of Thummidi Rajashekhar (23), an accountant who died by suicide allegedly due to harassment by his employer. Rajashekhar hailed from Agarguda village in Penchikalpet mandal.
Former Zilla Parishad vice-chairperson Koneru Krishna Rao and Koneru Charitable Trust chairman Koneru Vamshi handed over the financial aid, along with an additional Rs.1 lakh, to the bereaved family at Agarguda on Sunday.
During a protest demanding justice for Rajashekhar, Konappa had announced financial assistance of Rs.1 lakh to the family. He also demanded stern action against trader Rachakonda Krishna and his wife for allegedly abetting Rajashekhar’s suicide.
Rajashekhar, reportedly feeling humiliated after being verbally abused by Krishna, consumed pesticide in his village on the evening of June 23. He was initially taken to a hospital in Kagaznagar and later shifted to a private facility in Karimnagar, where he died during treatment on the evening of June 24.
On June 25, Rachakonda Krishna, a resident of Penchikalpet mandal headquarters, was arrested for allegedly harassing Rajashekhar over the repayment of a Rs.10,000 loan. Based on a complaint from Rajashekhar’s family, a case of abetment to suicide was registered against Krishna.
