Mancherial: In a tragic incident, a farmer’s family of four died by suicide on Thursday as they were depressed over their financial crisis at Malkapalli village in Kaspet mandal of Mancherial district.
Kasipet Sub-Inspector Bethi Ramulu said the deceased were Janjirala Ramesh (50), a farmer, his wife Padma (45), their newly married daughter Sowmya (19) and son Akshay (17), natives of Malkapalli village.
Ramesh and Padma resorted to the drastic step as they reportedly were unable to cope with the financial crisis. They first killed their daughter and son by hanging before committing suicide in the same way. While the bodies of Sowmya and Akshay were found lying on the bed, the bodies of Ramesh and Padma were found hanging from the ceiling. A suicide note purportedly written by Ramesh was recovered.
“Please forgive us, my brothers Sandeep and Mahesh. Don’t curse us. I could not register profits in cultivating cotton crop. I am unable to repay debts of around Rs 8 lakh. I don’t have assets to clear them. We are forced to commit suicide due to the debts. We would have been alive had we owned some property,” Ramesh narrated his plight and the reason for his extreme act in the note.
Police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to Mancherial area hospital for autopsy. They began a probe into the suicide pact and focused on various angles including financial crisis and family disputes over Sowmya.
A case of suspicious death was registered. Investigations were taken up.
