Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at two adjoining furniture shops near Medchal Checkpost in the early hours of Sunday, destroying furniture and other goods stored at the establishments.
The fire is suspected to have originated in one of the shops and rapidly spread to the neighbouring premises. The blaze sent dense smoke into the surroundings. Alerted by the thick smoke, residents and passers-by informed the fire control room.
Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and fire personnel brought the flames under control after an hour-long operation. The extent of the damage was not immediately known, though a large quantity of furniture is believed to have been destroyed.
Police reached the scene and began an inquiry into the incident. A case was registered, and officials were examining the circumstances that led to the fire.
A preliminary investigation suggested that an electrical short circuit could have triggered the blaze. However, police and fire officials were yet to ascertain the exact cause.
