Hyderabad: A major fire broke out in a slaughter house at Chengicherla on the city outskirts on Thursday. No casualties were reported. A short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire.

As per available information, the fire erupted from the store room in the slaughter house, where meat is usually stored. For the past few days, the store room was being vacated by a trader as the lease contract had ended.

It was during shifting the material from inside the store room, fire is suspected to have erupted. The presence of combustible material led to thick fire and smoke. The workers, who noticed the flames, alerted the slaughter house authorities, police and the fire department.

Panic prevailed in the area for some time due to the neighbourhood being engulfed with thick smoke.

Three fire engines were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused in about one hour. The worth of the property damaged was to be estimated. Medipally police are investigating.
