Khammam: A massive fire broke out in Velugumatla Urban Park on the outskirts of Khammam city during late night hours on Thursday.

On receiving information from the locals, the forest, police and fire department officials rushed to the spot. Four fire engines were deployed to bring the fire under control. It was said that agricultural waste was burnt in a farm field nearby, and the fire spread into the park.

Plants on 30 acres of land in the park were said to have been burnt as the flames spread rapidly due to high-speed winds in the night. The residents of Puttakota, Allipuram and Rudramakota areas rushed to the spot to help the firefighters control the fire.
