Siddipet: Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao on Monday said Telangana was the only State in the country to celebrate Christmas as an official festival.
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the first Christian Bhavan in Telangana built at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, at Gajwel, five days ahead of Christmas. The Minister also distributed new clothes to 3,600 poor Christians on this occasion.
Like they built Christian Community Bhavans in Gajwel and Siddipet, the government will build community halls for Christians in all the Constituency headquarters across the State for Christians, he said. Saying that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao respects all religions equally, Rao has suggested the pastors ensure the Christmas gifts being distributed by the government reach each and every household. He has also allotted 5 acres of land for an exclusive Christian burial ground for the Christian community in Gajwel besides assuring to buy a vehicle for the funeral procession.
The Health Minister has also handed 19 lakh worth of CMRF (Chief Minister Relief Fund) cheques to 26 beneficiaries on this occasion.
MLC Dr V Yadava Reddy, Forest Development Corporation Chairman Vanteru Prathap Reddy, DCCB Chairman Chitti Devendar Reddy, Municipal Chairman Rajamouli, Market Chairperson Annapurna Srinivas and others were present.
