Hyderabad: The landmark edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was successfully organised across the nation to mark World Bicycle Day, witnessing massive participation from citizens, athletes, institutions, and fitness enthusiasts at thousands of locations across India. The nationwide celebrations were further elevated by the participation of several prominent cycling clubs. Major participating locations included Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Medchal, Mulugu, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Bengaluru, Madikeri, Sagara, Mysuru and Dharwad. “This edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was organised as a nationwide tribute to India’s journey towards clean and green mobility and reducing dependency on fossil fuels. Fit India Movement was launched on August 29, 2019, by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a view to make fitness an integral part of our daily lives, said M. Venkaiah Naidu, former vice-president of India, who was the chief guest at the Smart Bike Point in Gachibowli on Sunday morning. “The mission of the movement is to bring about behavioral changes and move towards a more physically active lifestyle. It has since grown into a nationwide movement under the banner of Sundays on Cycle, engaging over 30 lakh cycling enthusiasts and reaching more than 7 crore citizens through on-ground activities, social media outreach, and various public engagement initiatives,” Mr Venkaiah Naidu said. SAI STC chief coach (gymnastics) Dr. Ravindra Kumar Puli, in-charge SAI, Hyderabad, said the event was a huge success. The special edition of ‘Sundays on Cycle’ brought together participants from diverse sectors, including CRPF units, Indian Air Force establishments, CISF, ITBP, CGDA, ESIC, police departments, sports academies, Khelo India Centres, educational institutions, cycling clubs, software companies, and fitness enthusiasts from across the country. The event showcased the spirit of Jan Bhagidari and reinforced the message of fitness, sustainability, and a pro- environment approach. The event witnessed grand success across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, where thousands of participants enthusiastically joined the cycling movement at multiple centres and locations. The celebrations created a vibrant atmosphere of unity, fitness, and a collective step towards a sustainable, clean, and green India. The campaign has consistently expanded beyond cycling by incorporating yoga, Zumba, rope skipping, recreational sports, and wellness activities, making fitness accessible, engaging, and inclusive for people of all age groups.
