Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt on Friday said the Central government has received five applications from Telangana including one from the State government for affiliation of schools to Sainik School Society.
Replying to a question from TRS MPs Venkatesh Netha Borlakunta, Dr. G Ranjith Reddy, Pasunoori Dayakar and Kavitha Malothu, the Minister said applications were received from four private institutions – Sucheta Society in Kamareddy, Jawaharlal Nehru Educational Society in Rajanna Sircilla, Springdales School in Ranga Reddy and V Raghava Reddy Lakshmamma Educational Society in Medchal Malkajgiri and one application from the government institute – Telangana Social Welfare Residential Sainik School in Karimnagar.
The Minister said the schools will be shortlisted through a process of evaluation, subject to meeting of qualifying requirements framed for the purpose and willingness to agree to the approval by-laws and signing of memorandum of agreement with the Sainik Schools Society.
An evaluation committee, constituted for the purpose will carry out evaluation of the applicant school in association with the school at the local level, based on details submitted by such schools in their application form. The report of the evaluation committee will be considered at the Sainik Schools Society, through a committee formed for the purpose who will consider each application on merit and submit its comments for approval of the competent authority.
To another question posed by Congress MP and TPCC president A Revanth Reddy on headquarters of Southern Army Command, Ajay Bhatt said the location of various headquarters of army from command to the brigades were driven primarily by operational logic and other important aspects like availability of land to accommodate the forces, support infrastructure around the location, aspirations of the men in uniforms etc.
Headquarters southern command is located in Pune since its operational area is in Rajasthan and Gujarat. However, one of its subordinate formations is in Hyderabad-Secunderabad in Telangana. Pune also facilitates tri-service synergy with Indian Navy Command Headquarters at Mumbai and Indian Air Force Headquarters at Gandhinagar.
The Minister said there was no plan to relocate headquarters southern command to any Southern State and added that a representation from a MP regarding need to shift headquarters of Indian Army’s southern command to Secunderabad was received in February, 2020.
