Five engineering students go missing in Godavari near Bhadrachalam
Five engineering students went missing in the Godavari River near Bhadrachalam after slipping into deep waters while taking photographs. Two others managed to escape. Rescue teams, including police and expert swimmers, have launched search operations at the site.
Police and firefighters launched rescue operations to trace out the missing students.
Kothagudem: Five engineering students have been reported missing in the river Godavari near Bhadrachalam at Veleru in Kukunoor mandal Andhra Pradesh on Friday.
According to the police, seven students studying second year BTech at SRM Engineering College of Amaravati visited Bhadrachalam on Thursday to offer prayers at the Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Devasthanam. During afternoon hours on Friday, the students, Srikar, Abhilash, Harsha, Deepak, Teja, Satish and Navadeep went to Godavari to take photos and entered the waters in a row by holding each others’ hands.
While doing so, they started slipping into the waters as they could not assess the depth of the waters. On noticing their friends drowning, Abhilash and Srikar, who were standing last in the row, managed to move to safety.
Abhilash and Srikar were from Bhadrachalam while the others were from Uyyuru and Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh. Bhadrachalam SI Shyam Prasad along with firefighters Kumar, Harish, Naveen and expert swimmers reached the spot and launched rescue operations.
