Mancherial: Five persons were booked for allegedly smuggling prohibited jaggery and ammonium chloride (solid state) in Jannaram mandal centre on Wednesday. As many 840 kg of jaggery and 1,080 kg of ammonium chloride worth Rs 3.64 lakh were seized from their possession.

Mancherial ACP Akhil Mahajan said that the accused were Sheelam Ramesh, his son Ramesh, Erra Chandrasekhar, his brother Naresh and Banoth Guruvaiah, all belonging to Jannaram mandal headquarters.

They were found stored when cops conducted raids on a warehouse following a tip-off.
In the meantime, two cases were registered against Sheelam Ramesh, his son Ramesh, Erra Chandrasekhar, and his brother Naresh on the charges of trading prohibited gutka, tobacco products and spurious cotton seeds.

The products and seeds worth about Rs 36,000 were recovered from a warehouse belonging to the four.
