Hyderabad: The Abid Road police arrested five persons on charges of kidnapping, robbing and assaulting the cashier of an eatery here on Thursday. Police seized cash, ATM cards and mobile phones from them.
The arrested persons were Mohd Shahnawaz (21), a mobile phone technician from Bhavaninagar, who was earlier involved in a theft case, Mohd Mohsin (24), a fruit vendor from Yakutpura, involved in three cases, Mir Rahman Ali Nadeem (19), a degree student from Abid Road, Syed Shahnawaz (20), an electrician from King Koti and Mohd Sumair (20), a panshop worker from Chilkalguda.
According to the police, on Monday, the complainant Narender Kumar from Dhoolpet was going to work in Bowenpally on his bike, when two of the suspects driving a motorcycle hit his bike near Hotel Taj Mahal crossroads. Though it was not his fault, they started abusing him and demanded money.
They then asked him to accompany to an automobile repair shop at Gunfoundry, where the others joined them. They assaulted him and robbed his cash, mobile phone, ATM cards and wristwatch. They also manhandled him when he resisted, police said, adding they also snatched his cash bag and took a cheque of Rs 1 lakh apart from which, they demanded for another Rs 2 lakh. When he refused, they beat him up again.
A case was booked by the Abid Road police and investigation taken up. Based on footage from surveillance cameras, the suspects were identified and nabbed.
