Hyderabad: Five people, including three persons from Andhra Pradesh, lost their lives in a car crash in Fannin County of Texas, United States, on Monday evening.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed the deaths and reported that one person was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.


According to local media reports, the crash occurred at 5.55 pm on State Highway 121, between Bonham and Trenton.

The Texas DPS was quoted saying that the accident happened when one car attempted to pass traffic in a no-passing zone, resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle. Both vehicles caught fire.

Among the victims, two individuals in one car, who were yet to be identified, were killed. Three Telugu persons in the second car died on the spot. They were identified by Telugu media as Gopi Tirumuru from Gudur, Rajineni Shiva and Haritha from Srikalahasti.

Haritha’s husband, Sai Chennu, was critically injured and was fighting for his life in hospital.
