Kothagudem: Police arrested five militia members of outlawed CPI (Maoist) Party at Cherla in Kothagudem district on Tuesday.
Special Party Police and CRPF 141 (A) Battalion personnel who were on patrolling duty took them into custody when they were found moving suspiciously at Gandhi Bomma Centre at Cherla, ASP M Rajesh Chandra told the media at Bhadrachalam.
He said that during questioning, they revealed their identity and confessed that they were working for the Maoists for the past four years and came to Bhadrachalam town to buy cloth for Maoist’s uniform.
The militia members were identified as Koram Joga, Podium Joga, Badisa Lakshma, Sodi Lakma and Korsa Suresh of neighbouring Chhattisgarh. They were working as couriers for the Maoist Jegurugonda Area Committee members Jagadish and Nagamani.
The police seized 20 metres of olive green cloth from their possession, the ASP noted, adding that the Maoists were engaging innocent tribals of Chhattisgarh to procure material of daily use besides explosives from different parts in Telangana.
Likewise, the Maoist leaders were dispatching battalion action teams and recce teams into Telangana to observe police movements to unleash violence and trying to spread panic among the public, the ASP explained.
Rajesh Chandra appealed to the public not to extend support to the Maoists and warned of serious action if anyone was found helping them.
