Five-member technical committee to probe Vizag HPCL fire accident

The committee, set up by the District Collector V. Vinay Chand, will look into the accident in the crude distillation unit no. 3 of the refinery and cause of oil leak in the overhead pipeline

Visakhapatnam: A five-member technical committee will inquire into the fire accident in HPCL Visakh Refinery which occurred on Tuesday.

The committee, set up by the District Collector V. Vinay Chand, will look into the accident in the crude distillation unit no. 3 of the refinery and cause of oil leak in the overhead pipeline.


Also, experts from IIPM and Andhra University chemical engineering departments would investigate the technical and security aspects and the report would be submitted in a week’s time, the Collector said.

The fire could be put out within 45 minutes and barring the crude distillation unit no. 3, production was normal at the HPCL refinery, he disclosed.
