Kothagudem: The district administration has planned to create five more sand reaches in Kothagudem district to meet the increasing need for sand.
The mining and Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC) officials were directed to prepare proposals that would be submitted to the State government for approval, Collector MV Reddy informed here on Saturday.
Currently, sand was being mined at five sand reaches in different places in the district and was being sold to the public through ‘Mana Isuka Vahanam’. Steps are being taken to ensure availability of sand to the common public.
Those purchasing the sand have to use the material for their own construction needs and if the involvement of any commercial trader was found, action would be taken against the erring persons, the Collector warned.
The TSMDC officials were told to link CCTVs installed at sand reaches to the Collector and the additional Collectors offices for effective monitoring of sand mining. Reports would be sent to the government against officials overlooking illegal sand mining.
Due to lack of proper monitoring over the sand mining the common public was facing difficulty in purchasing sand. Serious action would be taken against those violating the guidelines in sand mining and steps for village level monitoring would be taken, Reddy noted.
The officials concerned were strictly told not to act indifferently in maintaining the sand reaches as per government guidelines in the district and also cautioned that they would have to face criminal cases if found overriding the rules, he added.
