Nalgonda: In a heart-wrenching incident, five sisters tied rakhi to the limp hand of their dead brother at Malagudem hamlet of Indugula gram panchayat in Nalgonda district on Sunday, just before his funeral procession. Grief-stricken villagers watched the poignant scene unfold before them.

Chinthapally Lakshmaiah’s five sisters came to his house from different villages on Saturday evening for Raksha Bandhan on Sunday. Lakshmaiah (59), who suddenly fell ill, died in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the sisters devastated.

The sisters – Erra Lakshmamma, Nama Padma, Allapuri Venkatamma, Kadiri Kotamma and Jakki Kavitha – had been tying ‘rakhi’ to their brother every year without fail. Before the start of the funeral procession, the five sisters tied ‘rakhi’ to their brother’s hand with tears rolling down their eyes uncontrollably.

Padma said that they had been visiting their brother’s house to tie ‘rakhi’ every year after their marriage.
