Amaravati: Five students and a teacher of Veda Pathasala in Madipadu of Acchampeta mandal of Guntur district were washed away in the Krishna on Friday evening.
Students from various States stay in the Sveta Srungachala Veda, Vedanta Gurukula Pathasala. The students and the teacher entered the river. One student who could not fathom the depth, drowned and in the effort to rescue him– one after another all the six met a watery grave.
The students who drowned were Siva Sarma, 14, of Madhya Pradesh, Nitish Kumar Dixit, 15, Hirshat Shukla, 15, Subha Trivedi, 15, and Anshuman Shukla, 14, from Uttar Pradesh. The teacher, Ketapalli Venka Subrahmanyam, 26, hails from Narasaraopeta of Guntur district.
Three other students who were on the banks were frightened by the incident and ran away. They were caught by the police who went in search of them, and restored to the school management.
