Adilabad: Five villages in erstwhile Adilabad district shined in implementation of Sansad Adarsh Gram Panchayat Yojana (SAGY), an initiative of union ministry of rural development, for the year 2021. The ranks were declared by the Centre recently.
Patnapur village in Boath mandal of Adilabad district achieved 12th rank in the national level by scoring 85.92 marks out of the total 100 on 12 parameters, while Marlawai village in Jainoor mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district got 80 marks and secured 35th rank. Similarly, Gudem village in Dandepalli mandal from Mancherial district bagged 54th rank and Wajar village of Boath mandal got 92nd rank in the evaluation by registering 70.57 marks and 58.75 marks, respectively. Dantanpalli village from Utnoor mandal of Adilabad district figured at 130th rank.
The five villages were among 280 habitations across the country and 35 from Telangana selected by the union ministry of rural development. The SAGY was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on birth anniversary of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayanan in October, 2014. Under the initiative, ideal villages across the country are adopted by local Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, for holistic development.
District Panchayat Officer P Srinivas said that the villages were showing way to their counterparts of the district by achieving the ranks. The heads of administration of these villages are interested in developing their habitations on many fronts with the help of the funds granted under the scheme. They strive to create basic amenities such as roads, side drains, etc.
The union ministry has provided ranks to these gram panchayats based on their holistic development, including implementation of village development plan, improvement of basic amenities, provision of better livelihood opportunities and enriched social capital among other parameters. Good governance, human development and completion of various projects taken up using the funds were considered in ranking the villages.
