Sangareddy: Ordnance Factory (ODF) Medak conducted floating trials for BMP-2 and BMP-2K infantry combat vehicles (ICV), developed with Russian technology, at Malkapur Pedda Cheruvu, a minor irrigation tank, near Sangareddy town on Friday. The ODF will conduct the floating trials of infantry combat vehicles every year in the tank before handing over the ICVs to the Indian Army. The ICVs will be used to take army men to the battlefield. However, it will have guns and protective gear to protect the army men if rivals attack them. The speed of the amphibious vehicle on the water will be 7 kmph while it travels at 65 kmph on land. The ICV will carry 10 men at a time

Speaking to news reporters on the sidelines of the floating test, Joint General Manager ODF, R Sarbjith Reddy said that they would conduct 20 to 25 trials including the floating tests after manufacturing the ICVs. He further said that they will also conduct 100 KM running trials for each ICV before they are inducted into the army. Stating that the ODF manufactures some 120 ICVs every year, the joint general manager said that they had manufactured over 3,000 ICVs so far. The tests were conducted in the presence of the experts from the Director General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) on Friday. A huge number of people and employees of ODF gathered to watch the trial tests.
