Flood alert in Bhadrachalam as water levels surge in Godavari River

The tributaries of Godavari river like Wainganga, Wardha and Sabari have been overflowing due to the torrential rains and it caused Godavari to receive huge inflows.

Kothagudem: Water level in river Godavari at Bhadrachalam has been increasing for the past couple of days due to heavy rains in its upper catchment areas.

The tributaries of Godavari river like Wainganga, Wardha and Sabari have been overflowing due to the torrential rains and it caused Godavari to receive huge inflows. Water level on Thursday at 6 am was 23.30 feet and it reached 34 feet at 8 am on Friday at Bhadrachalam.

At 5 pm, the water level reached 37 feet with a discharge of 6.61 lakh cusecs and the water level could rise further, said Central Water Commission officials. The first warning level is 43 feet, officials said.

The district officials have alerted the residents in low-lying areas to be cautious in view of the increasing Godavari flood level. The rainfall situation in the district remained normal as there was no rainfall in the majority of the mandals.
