Khammam: DGP B Shivdhar Reddy has asked the district police to focus on preventive policing to curtail cybercrimes and the drug menace in the State.
The DGP, along with Multi Zone IGP Chandrasekhar Reddy and Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt, inaugurated a police sports complex and residential quarters constructed with state-of-the-art facilities here on Sunday. The sports complex was built to make police personnel and their children good sportspersons, while the residential quarters were built to provide better accommodation to the families of police personnel, who are engaged in law and order duties regularly, he said.
Later, the DGP held a meeting with police officers to review crime statistics, progress in investigation into major cases, law and order measures, safety of women and children, cybercrimes, road accidents, drug control and sand smuggling across the district. Shivdhar Reddy said the Telangana police department had a good reputation in the country and that the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) and EAGLE teams were working with the highest efficiency. They played a key role in making drug gangs leave Telangana.
He said cybercrimes were increasing significantly over the past ten years. The Cyber Simba programme, designed by the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate to take the campaign to the doorsteps and curb cyber frauds through self awareness, should be implemented in the district to prevent cybercrimes. The DGP asserted that drug trafficking would not be tolerated. With increased checks and surveillance on drugs, ganja gangs were trying to smuggle drugs through alternative routes, and special teams were ready to curb them.
Later in the day, the DGP, along with Warangal commissioner of police Sunpreet Singh, inaugurated an Indian Oil petrol filling station to be run by Warangal police on the premises of the Police Training Centre at Madikonda in Warangal police commissionerate. He also inaugurated a renovated police guest house in Hanamkonda.
