Hyderabad: Dream big is what Mounika Yadav believed in. The singer, who won many hearts with her very first song ‘Saami Saami’ that she sang for the film ‘Pushpa’ is now enjoying her success.
The 25-year-old young singer, who hails from Karimnagar, is all set to test her luck and carve her path in the Telugu film industry. Mounika started practising singing right from her sixth standard and took training under Daya Narsing, and Vijayanand. “I love to dance more than singing, and when my father asked me to practise folk songs, I was confused. But now, it feels like the path I chose was the right one.”
“I used to see my father and mother struggling hard for us; they would work hard and make us focus on studies as well as arts, especially my father who used to force me to sing. He would hum all folk songs and that’s what motivated me to follow in his footsteps,” says the singer.
Seeing sister Padmavati, who used to practise a lot and performed onstage as well, Mounika was motivated. Later, the sister-duo started performing in events together and also took part in Telangana agitation. “We used to go to different places and perform, and talk about her culture and more. I should also thank our Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao who changed our future by giving a permanent job in ‘Telangana Samskruthika Sarathi’,” says Mounika, who loves working in the film industry.
Besides taking part in the Telangana movement, Mounika has performed in 1,000-plus shows. Some of her hits on YouTube, which made her famous and brought her opportunities from the film industry, are ‘Ramula O ramula’, ‘Bava O Sari Rava’, ‘Nethuti Mudhaie Nelana Pada’.
“I was on cloud nine when I got an opportunity to work for the film ‘Pushpa’, and Devi sir is one of the amazing persons I met. I was nervous initially but Devi sir encouraged me and gave time to practise for a couple of hours. After singing the song, I was still nervous about it till it aired and finally it’s everywhere now,” says Mounika, who is being appreciated by many from the film industry.
Mounika is also working for a couple of more films, which will be announced soon.
