Mahabubnagar: Food poisoning at Government schools and colleges and students complaining about worm-infested food being served to them has become a regular feature in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s home district of Mahabubnagar.

There have been quite a few incidents of students getting hospitalised after consuming the food served to them in schools. These apart, there have also been occasions, when students staged protests demanding quality food and ingredients, rice, vegetables and others used for cooking the food.

On August 3, students from Kasturba Gandhi Girls School at Nacharam in the Chief Minister’s Kodangal constituency hit the streets and staged a protest over poor quality food being served to them in the hostel. The students said wriggling worms were detected in the rice and curries many times, and despite repeated complaints, there was no action from the government.

On the same day, 20 students of the Model School at Veldanda mandal in Nagarkurnool district were hospitalised after consuming poor-quality food in their hostel. Students complained that half-cooked food was being served to them, and there were worms in the rice and curries for the last few days.

On August 4, about 22 students of KGBV at Pentlavelli in Kollapur were hospitalised due to food poisoning. After lunch, the girls complained of stomach ache, and many began vomiting. Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao asked officials for an inquiry and report.

On September 23, when former Kodangal MLA Patnam Narender Reddy and others inspected the mid-day meals storeroom at Primary and Zilla Parishad School at Kommuru village under Gundamal mandal, they were aghast to notice worm-infested rice being used to cook meals.

On October 22, a few students of Sainapally Primary School, Bijnapally, fell ill after consuming mid-day meals. On Wednesday, 30 students of Maganoor Zilla Parishad High School, Narayanpet, were admitted to Government General Hospital, Mahabubnagar, following food poisoning. The worst part is that they were served stale and worm-infested food for breakfast while undergoing treatment for food poisoning in the hospital!
