Forest dept, WWF to host Kawal Bird Festival in Telangana’s Mancherial from March 1
The bird festival to bring together bird enthusiasts, researchers, and community members from across the country to celebrate the rich avian diversity of the Kawal landscape
Mancherial: The Telangana Forest department in collaboration with World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-is going to host first of its kind national-level event titled Kawal Bird Festival at Integrated District Officers Complex here on March 1 and 2, celebrating avian diversity of Kawal Tiger Reserve and Godavari landscape.
District Forest Officer Shiv Aasheesh Singh, in a statement, said that the Kawal Bird Festival would bring together bird enthusiasts, researchers, and community members from across the country to celebrate the rich avian diversity of the Kawal landscape.
Eminent scientists such as Dr Asad Rahmani of Bird Conservation of India, Dr Biksham Gujja and Dr Sathiya Selvam and many others would grace the occasion.
The festival will feature a wide range of activities. For instance, it will have guided bird walks, where renowned experts will help participants identify and appreciate the region’s birdlife, along with interactive talks by leading ornithologists and scientists. Special workshops will be organised for school teachers and students, and college students.
Similarly, the forest department staff will educate the participants on the importance of bird conservation, equipping them with the knowledge to become future stewards of biodiversity in the region. This initiative aims to inspire the local community to actively participate in protecting the unique bird species and ecosystems of the region.
The festival is going to be organised in association with knowledge partners such as Early bird, Birdcount India, IISER-Tirupati, Roundglass Sustain, Hyderabad Birding Pals whose expertise would add immense value to the event. The partners and the frontline staff of Mancherial Forest Division will curate scientific sessions, workshops and other activities.
“The support of the partners strengthens the festival’s mission of fostering awareness and action for bird conservation. With a diverse range of activities, the Kawal Bird Festival promises to be an engaging and educational experience, encouraging collective efforts to safeguard the invaluable bird diversity of the Kawal landscape,” Singh opined.
