Hyderabad: The elusive leopard was finally trapped by the forest department officials with the assistance of Rajendranagar police on Saturday night.

The leopard landed in one of the cages set up by the forest officials on Saturday. The leopard on Saturday killed two calves at a cattle shed . It had visited the same spot located behind the Water and Land Management Training and Research Institute (WALAMTARI) a month ago and killed a cow.

On Saturday teams of the forest officials had reset up cages around the WALAMTARI and its surroundings. The leopard landed in one of the cages. The forest officials reached the spot and are making efforts to shift the animal to the Nehru Zoological Park where it will be kept for some time before a decision is taken on releasing it in the wild.

The leopard was first sighted on the road at Mailardevpally thoroughfare on 14 May creating panic among the public. The efforts of the forest department have been launched since then. The animal in the following months was spotted at Rajendranagar GreyHounds training centre, Moinabad and the WALAMTARI surroundings several times in the last six months.
