Former Bengal minister Udayan Guha arrested over ‘financial irregularities’ linked to PM Awas Yojana
Senior Trinamool Congress leader and former minister Udayan Guha was arrested in Kolkata's Phoolbagan area on Wednesday over alleged financial corruption in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme dating back to 2016
Kolkata: Former West Bengal minister and senior TMC leader Udayan Guha was arrested on Wednesday over his alleged involvement in “financial irregularities” linked to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a police officer said.
Guha was arrested from a flat in Phoolbagan area of the metropolis.
“There was a complaint lodged against the former minister alleging his involvement in financial irregularities in connection with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. There are other cases, too, against him, and action will accordingly be taken,” an officer of the Cooch Behar District Police told PTI.
The complainant alleged that Guha has been siphoning money meant for the scheme since 2016, he said.
Guha has been booked under sections of the BNS, including cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy, the officer said.
Allegations have also been levelled against Guha over post-poll violence in 2021.
Guha was the Trinamool Congress candidate from Dinhata in the 2026 assembly elections.
“We had information that Guha was staying in a flat in the Phoolbagan area of Kolkata. He was arrested from the flat,” the officer added.
The TMC leader is being taken to Cooch Behar and will be produced before a court on Thursday.
