Former Hyderabad Ranji star Anirudh Singh takes charge as Hyderabad E-Champions head coach for TG20 League
Former Hyderabad Ranji star Anirudh Singh has taken over as head coach of Hyderabad E-Champions for the upcoming TG20 League. Singh praised the HCA initiative, highlighting the franchise's long-term vision and its reliance on exciting young local talent.
Hyderabad: Former Hyderabad Ranji star Anirudh Singh has distinguished himself not just as one of the most consistent batters of his time but also one of impeccable reputation.
So, when Hyderabad E-Champions hired his services as the head coach for the TG20 League, organised by the Hyderabad Cricket Association, it can be just a recognition of his services as a player and later as a coach for different age groups in Hyderabad with the Chattisgarh Ranji squad too.
“It is a different kind of challenge for sure. When you coach the State team, there is a definite structure and everything in place including selection of players. Here in the franchise league, there is a lot of homework and preparations. There is a bigger responsibility as you have to ensure that the team has the right combination to produce results,” says Anirudh in a chat with ‘Telangana Today’ ahead of the league starting from June 21.
“I think we are the only franchise who bank on young and exciting talent led by Hyderabad Ranji opener Abhirath Reddy and including all-rounder Ajay Dev Goud, talented left-arm spinner and a very hand bat Pranav Varma to name a few. We have the right balance and the team is in high spirits and the players are raring to prove a point or two,” he said about the team.
“Honestly, this TG20 League is one thing which we have been missing. And, now it is one of the best things to have happened to Hyderabad cricket in recent times. I am sure in the days to come, we will have more players from Hyderabad in the IPL and even Indian teams too,” Anirudh said.
“Credit goes to HCA and the Governing Council for putting things in the right place,” he added.
“I won’t call there will be pressure on me as head coach or for that matter on the players. Yes, there will be expectations and that isnormal. We have to focus on the job ahead and give our best, just disconnect ourselves from any distractions,” Anirudh said.
On his franchise owners, the articulate cricketer said first he should thank them for giving the huge opportunity and thenthe best part was they having a long-term vision.
“They are not just looking at this edition. But are very keen to ensure the right kind of platform for the players to dream big and help them achieve that goal,” he said even while acknwledging the support from his entire support staff including former Ranji fast bowler Aflred Aboslem (bowling coach), Musharraf (assistant coach).
“Honestly, we the support staff have a lot of freedom and complete support from the franchise which is going out of the way to see whatever we need for better results is there. We are not found wanting in any aspect,” Anirudh concluded.
