Hyderabad: Retired IPS officer N Balasubramanyam, a 1994-batch officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, passed away on Friday, after battling with cancer.
He was undergoing treatment and retired from service in August 2026 upon attaining superannuation.
During his nearly 25-year career in law enforcement, intelligence and anti-extremist operations, Balasubramanyam served as Superintendent of Police of Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts in Telangana. He was recognised for leveraging information technology to strengthen policing and governance.
He designed and implemented the Intelligence Collection, Collation and Analysis Framework for the Andhra Pradesh government, strengthening intelligence-gathering and analysis mechanisms.
He also brought significant reforms to the Transport Department by making services such as vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, permits, learner’s licences and driving licences contactless, paperless and cashless, eliminating physical touchpoints between citizens and the department.
He served as Managing Director and later Chairman of APSRTC in Vijayawada. Andhra Pradesh continued to benefit from his experience and dedication until a few months before his demise.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy described his demise as heart-rending and said his dedicated services to the police system were inspiring.
Former Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar, who worked with him in the Intelligence Department, recalled his integrity, courage and commitment, describing him as a dependable colleague who served without seeking recognition.
Balasubramanyam is survived by his wife, children and other family members.
