Former minister Jogu Ramanna slams govt over delay in cotton, soy procurement
Former minister Jogu Ramanna criticised the Telangana government for failing to initiate procurement of cotton and soya produce despite announcing dates. He cited inefficiency and poor coordination between departments as the cause, urging immediate action to prevent further distress to farmers.
Adilabad: Former minister and MLA Jogu Ramanna slammed the State government for failing to procure soy and cotton produce despite announcing procurement dates. He addressed the media in Adilabad on Saturday.
Ramanna said that the government’s failure to begin procurement after declaring the dates reflected its incompetence. He added that farmers were facing serious inconvenience due to the delay in purchasing soybeans and cotton. Many had already shifted their produce to market yards, expecting timely procurement, he said.
The former minister further alleged that the stalemate over procurement was due to a lack of coordination among officials of the Marketing Department and the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI). He recalled that procurement used to begin around Diwali in the past.
Ramanna demanded that the government take immediate steps to start the procurement process and ensure farmers were not put to further distress.
