The party leadership has already sent a list of probable candidates identified from different communities to AICC headquarters in New Delhi for final approval

Hyderabad: Former Minister Konda Surekha is among the key contenders for the Congress ticket for Huzurabad Assembly constituency bypoll. The party leadership has already sent a list of probable candidates identified from different communities to AICC headquarters in New Delhi for final approval.

“She is definitely one of the key aspirants. The party high command is likely to select a candidate soon and TPCC will announce it in a couple of days,” a senior Congress leader said.

Sources in the party said there are different opinions among leaders over the candidature of Surekha for the by-poll. While one section of leaders has backed her candidature saying she was an experienced politician and can counter opponents’ claims in the campaign, another section believes that an SC or OC candidate should be fielded.

Others names doing the rounds include Sadanandam (SC) and Kisan Congress president P Krishna Reddy (OC), the senior Congress leader said.

Meanwhile, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy said all decisions, including selection of candidate, pertaining to Huzurabad bypoll were being handled by the Damodara Rajanarsimha Committee. “All aspects like candidate selection and campaign is being taken care of by the Damodara Rajanarsimha Committee,” he said.
