Former Minister Laxma Reddy hits out at Revanth Reddy over remarks on BRS rule

Former Minister C Laxma Reddy criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over remarks on the BRS rule and said TIMS-Sanath Nagar was initiated and largely completed during the previous government. He also highlighted BRS initiatives in healthcare and medical education.

Hyderabad: Former Minister C Laxma Reddy found fault with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for making baseless remarks about the 10-year BRS rule while inaugurating Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Sanath Nagar. He said Congress had ruled for more than 55 of the past 80 years but had failed to provide even adequate drinking water.

He reminded that the TIMS inaugurated by Revanth Reddy was an initiative of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and the majority of the works were completed during the BRS regime.

Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Laxma Reddy said BRS governed for nine-and-a-half years, including two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, he said Telangana witnessed development across sectors during the remaining period under K Chandrashekhar Rao.

He said the idea, site selection, land acquisition and resolution of issues related to TIMS were completed during the BRS regime, but the project was delayed after Congress came to power. He alleged the TIMS-Sanath Nagar could have been completed within a year but was delayed to prevent credit going to Chandrashekhar Rao.

The former Minister said the number of medical colleges increased from five in Telangana of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh to 34 under BRS, substantially expanding medical education opportunities. Oxygen beds were increased from 1,400 before Covid-19 to 34,000, while ICU, dialysis and diagnostic services were expanded in government hospitals.

Laxma Reddy said Basti Dawakhanas, 100-bed hospitals in constituencies and the expansion of NIMS to 2,000 beds were among the initiatives taken during the BRS regime. He also cited Mission Bhagiratha, Aarogyasri expansion, KCR Kits and Nutrition Kits as measures that improved healthcare outcomes.

He urged the Congress government to stop misinformation against the KCR government and focus on improving healthcare facilities.
