Hyderabad: Former MLA Rega Kantha Rao has been booked by the Punjagutta police after a woman accused him of sexually exploiting her over several years on the false promise of marriage.

Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to rape, cheating and criminal intimidation.

According to the complainant, she came into contact with Kantha Rao several years ago and alleged that he repeatedly established physical relations with her after assuring her that he would marry her.

She claimed he later refused to fulfil the promise and allegedly threatened her when she confronted him. The woman subsequently approached the police.

Police are recording statements, and evidence is being collected as part of the investigation. No arrest has been made so far.

Meanwhile, Kantha Rao, a former MLA from Pinapaka, is yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
