Mancherial: Former MLC and Congress leader Kokkirala Premsagar Rao on Sunday flayed the Union government for bringing in the new farm laws, stating that small farmers who constitute 75 per cent of the total agrarian population would be at the receiving end.
Addressing the media here along with DCC president K Surekha, he said the Centre was trying to benefit certain corporates through the new farm laws. “Farmers would not be able to sell their produce at will as one of the laws has scrapped the minimum support price system brought by the Congress in 2004,” he said.
The former MLC regretted that farmers would be forced to sell their agriculture lands at a loss because of the new laws. “BJP, which promised to help farmers at the time of poll campaign, is now playing with the lives of farmers and is ruining the farming sector,” he said, adding that India will have to import rice from the US if the Union government insists on continuing with the anti-farmers’ policies.
The ex DCC Chief donated Rs 3.69 lakh for construction of Sri Ram temple in Ayodhya. He handed over the cheque to representatives of Shri Ram Janma Bhumi Teerth Kshethra Trust.
