Former PM Manmohan Singh hails PV for introducing reforms
During his tenure, several decisions were taken both with respect to the economic and foreign policies, Manmohan Singh said, addressing a virtual PV Narasimha Rao centenary celebrations organized by TPCC
Hyderabad: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said former Prime Minister late PV Narasimha Rao stressed that reforms will have to take into account Indian concerns and would have to protect the interests of the poor and working people.
During his tenure, several decisions were taken both with respect to the economic and foreign policies, Manmohan Singh said, addressing a virtual PV Narasimha Rao centenary celebrations organized by TPCC here. “He was a rare scholar and statesman who gave a new sense of direction to India’s economic and also our foreign policies,” he said.
Under his leadership, India launched the Ballistic Missile Technology Programme, he said, adding that the Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) and Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) were successfully tested. “We also tested our Prithvi Missile, which was subsequently developed into an intermediate range ballistic missile,” the former Prime Minister said.
Meanwhile, outgoing TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said: “All the party workers are working hard to strengthening the party and their hard work should be recognized by giving them suitable opportunities.” He, however, refrained from commenting on Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s comments on the party affairs.
The newly appointed TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy called on former MP V Hanumantha Rao, who is undergoing treatment for kidney ailment at a private hospital. He also met former Ministers Chenna Reddy and Ponnala Laxmaiah.
