Former Sarpanches prevented from heading towards CM’s camp office, arrested

Former sarpanches were detained in Hyderabad while attempting to march to the Chief Minister’s camp office, demanding the release of Rs 531 crore in pending bills. JAC leaders alleged illegal arrests and criticised the government for delays in clearing long-pending dues

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Jubilee Hills Checkpost after former sarpanches were prevented from heading to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s camp office to press for their demand to clear pending bills amounting to Rs 531 crore.

A rally was proposed to be taken out to the Chief Minister’s camp office by the Telangana Former Sarpanches Joint Action Committee (JAC). However, police took the JAC members into custody and shifted them to Madhuranagar Police Station on Monday.


Similarly, many former sarpanches who had planned to participate in the rally were kept under house arrest in their respective villages and towns, JAC leaders said. JAC president S Yadaiah Goud condemned the alleged illegal arrests of former sarpanches who were questioning the delay in the release of pending bills.

“We demand that the government immediately release Rs 531 crore in pending bills for works taken up from 2019 to 2024,” he said, charging that the government was trying to wash its hands of the issue by releasing Rs 153 crore against the dues.
