Former Waqf Board chief seeks probe into Jagtiyal properties
Former Waqf Board chairman Mohammed Masiullah Khan has alleged arbitrary decisions in handling Waqf properties in Jagtiyal, raising concerns over encroachment and misuse. He sought an inquiry into Board decisions, verification of records and action against those responsible.
Hyderabad: The Telangana Waqf Board is facing fresh questions over the handling of its properties in Jagtiyal, with former Waqf Board chairman Mohammed Masiullah Khan alleging that arbitrary decisions by officials and certain members were weakening the institution and exposing valuable Waqf lands to the risk of encroachment and misuse.
In a representation to the authorities, Masiullah questioned the Board’s inaction despite repeated complaints and correspondence concerning Waqf properties in Jagtiyal. He alleged that instead of protecting the properties, certain decisions were being taken in a manner that appeared to benefit private interests.
He sought an immediate inquiry into the decisions taken by the Board and action against officials found responsible for any irregularities. He also questioned the continued silence of the authorities despite the matter being brought to their notice several times.
Masiullah said the government had repeatedly assured that Waqf properties would be protected and encroachments prevented. However, the developments in Jagtiyal, he alleged, raised serious doubts over the implementation of those assurances.
He urged the government and senior Waqf authorities to examine the records relating to the properties, verify the decisions taken by the Board and ensure that no Waqf land was alienated, encroached upon or otherwise dealt with in violation of the law.
The former chairman also demanded that responsibility be fixed if any official or Board member was found to have acted against the interests of Waqf institutions.
