Hyderabad: Representatives of National Intellectual Forum on Monday urged the State government to install the statue of TN Sadalakshmi, a first generation Telangana movement leader who served as Deputy Speaker and as first woman Minister in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, in front of the Public Gardens in Hyderabad.
They submitted a representation in this regard to Telangana State Planning Board vice chairman B Vinod Kumar who promised to take up the issue with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
On the occasion, the National Intellectual Forum representatives informed that Sadalakshmi, from SC community, was elected twice as MLA and once as MLC. As the first woman Minister in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, she brought many reforms in Social Welfare and Revenue departments. She also actively participated and organised several programmes as part of separate Telangana movement in 1969 demanding creation of Telangana State. After Marri Chenna Reddy was sent to jail during the movement, Sadalakshmi took charge as the president of the then Telangana Praja Samithi and strengthened the movement leading to the party winning 10 MP seats.
