Karimnagar: BC Welfare Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Monday laid foundation stone for a 16-ft bronze statue of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao at Multipurpose Park here.
Karimnagar Municipal Corporation has taken up the statue installation works as part of the Smart City programme. Besides the statue, a vertical garden, water fountain, RCC wall would also be taken up at a cost of Rs 45 lakh. Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao was also present on the occasion.
Kamalakar said Narasimha Rao was the pride of Telangana and hence, the State government was celebrating his birth anniversary on a grand scale following directions from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. “PV streamlined the financial condition of the country by introducing economic reforms,” he said.
Mayor Y Sunil Rao said to honor the great leader they had decided to install a bronze statue of PV in the town. The life history of Narasimha Rao would also be displayed at the statue, which would be completed in 15 days.
Deputy Mayor Challa Swaroopa Rani, Collector K Shashanka, MCK Commissioner Valluru Kranthi and others participated in the programme.
