Hyderabad: A black market racket involving IPL 2026 tickets was busted in the city and four persons were detained ahead of the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru match at Uppal Stadium on Friday.
Acting on credible information, the LB Nagar SOT police detained four persons for allegedly selling complimentary tickets at inflated prices in the black market. The suspects were later handed over to Uppal police for further investigation.
The issue came to light after all 39,000 tickets for the match were allegedly sold out within just three minutes on the ticketing app, raising suspicion among cricket fans.
Police suspect that a network of ticket black-marketeers may have purchased a large number of tickets in advance and later resold them at exorbitant rates.
Police are now investigating the source of the complimentary tickets and trying to identify others involved in the racket.
Meanwhile, police officials said cyber fraudsters were exploiting the heavy demand by creating fake ticketing apps and cheating fans with counterfeit tickets.
