Suryapet: In a joint operation, Central Crime Station (CCS) and Penpahad police on Thursday arrested four persons at Anantharam cross road in Penphad mandal and seized 1.3 quintals of ganja worth RS 10.4 lakhs from them.
The arrested were identified as Ajmeera Ramesh and Bhukya Vasu, natives of Mohammadapuram village, Nunavath Vijay, native of Jalamalakunta and Angothu Nagu, resident of Megya thanda in the district. Another two persons of the gang Manothu Vijay, a native of Sitaram thanda and Makka Ganesh, a native of Mohammadapuram are at large.
Presenting the arrested ganja peddlers before the media here, Superintendent of Police R Bhaskaran said that on credible information, the CCS and Penpahad police took up vehicle checking at Anantharam cross road and found ganja bags being transported in two cars. The police seized 60 kgs of ganja from one car and 70 kgs of ganja from another. The police arrested the four persons travelling in the car while two others managed to escape from the scene. They purchased ganja at Visakhapatnam and were transporting it to Hyderabad and Maharashtra in two cars.
Bhaskaran said cases were filed against the accused under Narcotic Drugs And Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act).
He said 16 suspected persons were identified by the police in Penpahad mandal and opened suspect sheets against them. Such organised crimes harm society as well as the youth, he said, adding that some youngsters were choosing the wrong path to make easy money and were landing behind bars.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Kumar, CCS Inspector Niranjan and Suryapet rural Circle Inspector Vittal Reddy were also present.
