Hyderabad: Panic gripped residents in Kulkacherla of Vikarabad after a wild animal, suspected to be a leopard, attacked a herd of goats, killing four in a cattle shed at Cheruvumundali thanda in the early hours of Thursday.
The big cat is suspected to have sneaked into a cattle shed and attacked the herd.
The animal fled the spot after dogs in the surroundings began barking. The incident came to light in the morning when the locals found the carcass of the goats a little away from the cattle shed and informed their shepherd K Lalya. On being alerted, officials from the Forest Department and the Vikarabad Police reached the spot and began investigations.
Forest officials have examined the spots where the big cat was said to have attacked the goats and are checking for traces including pug marks. They are also verifying footage from surveillance cameras in the surroundings.
Based on further clues, a trap may be set up to catch the unidentified animal, officials said.
