‘Four kidneys available’: Fake message on organ donation viral again

Hyderabad: A message goes like this: “Dear all important, four kidneys available. Due to the death of our friend Sudhir and his wife (service colleagues of my friend) who met with an accident yesterday, the doctor has declared them brain dead. Sudhir is B+ and his wife O+.”

If you receive such a message on your phone, remember that it is nothing but mischief since one cannot carry our organ transplantation details over WhatsApp or any other social media/messaging platform. Before hitting the forward button, remember that it could be a scam. And, you are not going to help any kidney patient through the message. While nobody picks up if a call is made to the first number, the second number is not active. True caller will reveal that these are spam numbers.
We found the same message dating back to 2017 on social media platforms. Since then, it has been shared on WhatsApp every year. Police have earlier too made it clear it’s a scam and have said that it is better not to forward such messages.
Selling kidneys in India is an illegal act.
