Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Saturday arrested four members of a notorious gang of chain snatchers who were involved in gold chain snatching cases and recovered property worth Rs 5 lakh from them.
Acting on information, the sleuths of Jeedimetla Police and CCS Qutbullapur arrested Govind Singh, Karan Singh, Hardeep Singh, Rohith Singh and a juvenile.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Qutbullapur, N Koti Reddy said that gang members forcibly snatched gold chains and mobile phones from innocent women during morning walks.
Following an incident of chain snatching on Tuesday, where the gang members travelling in an auto rickshaw flicked away a gold chain weighing two tolas from a woman, the police registered a case.
During the investigation, special teams from CCS Qutbullapur and the Jeedimetla police station were formed. The team analysed CCTV footage from the scene of the offence and potential escape routes.
“By verifying the modus-operandi, suspect records, and technical evidence, the accused were identified and tracked down with the help of the auto-rickshaw used in the crime,” said DCP Qutbullapur, N Koti Reddy.
The officials stated that the gang members regularly gathered in the evenings and consumed liquor. Thereafter, they would steal auto-rickshaws from nearby colonies and move around the city and target vulnerable, solitary women and walkers on main roads.
The police recovered stolen property, including a gold chain, a mobile phone, and a two-wheeler, altogether worth approximately Rs 5 lakhs, from them.
