Hyderabad: Four international passengers who had arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad on Thursday, have tested positive for Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr G Srinivasa Rao on Thursday said.

“We received four imported Omicron positive cases on Thursday. Out of the four travellers, three are from Kenya and one is of Indian origin. Our investigations to track and trace the close contacts of all the Omicron patients are ongoing,” he said.


According to the health bulletin, out of the four passengers who tested positive for Omicron variant, one passenger had arrived in Hyderabad from at-risk countries while the remaining three passengers were from non at-risk countries. On Thursday, a total of 120 international passengers had arrived at RGIA, Hyderabad out of which one had tested positive for Covid-19.

Overall, a total of seven passengers who arrived at RGIA Shamshabad have tested positive for Omicron variant out of which a 7-year-old child along with his family members took an onward flight to Kolkata. Out of the remaining six Omicron positive patients, two are admitted to TIMS, Gachibowli while details of the remaining four are awaited.
