Four students killed, one critical in Chevella road accident near Hyderabad
Four students were killed and another critically injured after a speeding car lost control and crashed into a divider and tree in Chevella near Hyderabad early Thursday. Police suspect overspeeding and have launched an investigation
Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, four students were killed and another sustained serious injuries when the car they were travelling in rammed into a tree near Mirzaguda Gate in Chevella late on Wednesday night.
The victims were identified as Kargayala Sumith (20), Sri Nikhil (20), Balmuri Rohith (18) and Devala Surya Teja (20). While Sumith, Nikhil and Surya Teja were students of ICFAI Business School (IBS), Rohith was an engineering student at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT). The injured woman, Sunkari Nakshatra, a final-year BBA student, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
According to ACP Chevella B Kishan, the group was travelling from Mokila to Narsingi at the time of the accident. “They had gathered for dinner at a hotel in the evening. After dinner, they went to Mokila to drop a friend and met with an accident while returning to the city. Sumith was driving the car,” said the ACP.
Road users who noticed the accident alerted the police. The lone woman survivor was rushed to the hospital for treatment, and the bodies of the four men were pulled out of the mangled car and sent to the mortuary.
Police suspect the accident occurred due to overspeeding. “The exact cause of the accident is being investigated. We also have to seek the opinion of the Road Transport Authority officials,” said the official.
Emotional scenes were witnessed at the mortuary as parents, relatives and friends of the victims arrived. The grief-stricken parents broke down on seeing the bodies lying on the stretchers in the morgue.
