Hyderabad: The Punjagutta police have solved the murder case of a four-year-old child, whose body was found abandoned on the roadside near the Jalagam Vengal Rao Park last week, and arrested two persons including the child’s mother. An extra-marital affair is suspected to have led to the child’s murder.

According to police sources, footage from surveillance cameras in the surroundings had showed a woman carrying the child’s body and abandoning it at the spot, from where it was found later. With the help of local inputs, it was found that the woman was the child’s mother, a beggar.

At the same time, forensic doctors, who conducted an autopsy on the child’s body, opined that she was physically assaulted as there were internal injuries. Based on the autopsy report and preliminary enquiry, the case was altered to that of murder.

“When we started investigating from the angle that she could have been killed by people close to her, clues indicated the role of her mother and another person,” an official associated with the investigation said. Further investigation revealed that the mother was involved in an extramarital affair and that she along with her paramour, could have decided to eliminate the child to continue their relationship.

The child was found dead on November 4, with local residents who first saw the body alerting the police. The Punjagutta police had earlier booked a case of suspicious death, which was then altered to that of murder. A press meet is expected to be held on Saturday, when the police are expected to confirm the arrests and share details.
