FPOs aim at Rs 20 crore turnover through mango procurement: Errabelli

Warangal Rural: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said the Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) were trying to achieve a turnover of Rs 20 crore purchasing and selling mangoes for the financial years 2021-22.
Addressing members of members of FPOs and mango farmers at Mahabubnagar village in Rayaparthy mandal under Palakurthy Assembly constituency here on Wednesday after inaugurating the mango procurement centre, he said that the FPOs (SERP-DRDA) had started the business in 2019. “While Rs 40 lakh worth business was done in 2019 with four FPOs in four districts, Rs 1.87 crore turnover was achieved with seven FPOs in seven districts in 2020. In 2021 so far, they have achieved turnover of Rs 7 crore with 12 FPOs in 12 districts in the district,” he said, adding that they were exporting the mangoes to big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Coimbatore are.
“The export of mangoes from Telangana to other places is on the rise. So far, 25 FPOs have been formed in 21 districts and each FPO consists of 800 to 1200 members. We are targeting establishment of 100 FPOs by the end of this year,” Dayakar Rao said, adding that nearly two lakh people will benefit from the FPOs.
“We are bringing together small and medium farmers under the aegis of FPOs and also registering them under companies act. These FPOs are supplying mangoes to leading business houses like IFCO, Way Cool, Metro Supermarket, More Supermarket, Super Daily, Fresh to Home and Farm Dev,” Rao said. The Minister, however, urged the farmers to go for the cultivation of mango, papaya, coconut, watermelon, muskmelon, guava, and sapota are being traded during the season.
“So far this year, 90 metric tonnes of mangoes have been traded in Khammam and Nalgonda districts. We are aiming at making 1500 MTs of mango procurement this season. While a total of 35 Farmers Producer Groups have been formed in the district. Rayaparthi has got 70 MTs , Wardhannapeta 10 MTs, and Parvatagiri mandals has got 20 MTs. Fruit varieties like Bunginapalli, Kesari, and Pulsa varieties are widely grown here,” he said and added that the groups were not taking any commission or brokerage. “We are formed the FPOs to help the farmers by checking the middlemen system,” he stated.
