Adilabad: Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna said efforts were on to make Adilabad a pollution-free district. He along with Collector Sikta Patnaik inaugurated Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP), costing Rs 2.56 crore, at Bangariguda Colony in Adilabad on Tuesday. It is the eighth facility in Telangana.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramanna said that the plant was installed in Adilabad town as part of a special interest to develop urban parts by Information Technology and Municipal Administration Minister K Taraka Rama Rao. He expressed happiness over the developmental activities being taken up in the civic body.

The legislator further said that the treatment of sewage and waste used to be dumped in open places, causing diseases and inconvenience to locals. However, the plant was established for the prevention of pollution. The facility can manufacture biofertilizers and other products, besides controlling pollution by treating liquid and solid wastes of septic tanks.

Sikta Patnaik said that the water generated from the plant would be used for watering saplings in the nurseries of Adilabad town. She stated that the Telangana government would set up similar plants across the State soon. She requested the public to extend their cooperation in maintaining the streets of the town tidy and keeping diseases at bay.

Municipal chairperson Jogu Premender, vice-chairman Zahir Ramzani, Additional Collector M David, municipal commissioner Shailaja and local councilors were present.
